Make pages ruler ticks snappable

Hello,

I'm new to the built in Pages App.

I'd like to make ruler tick marks snappable in order to place objects and guides precisely on my page,, but I don't find a way to do this.

Is there any?

I use Pages version 5.6.1 (2562) on OS X El Capitan version 10.11.2

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Set your Pages v5.6.1 Preferences (Pages menu : Preferences) to the following Ruler settings, and in Pages View menu : Show Rulers.

Once you have done this, you will have horizontal and vertical rulers. As you move your normal document pointer (insertion beam) onto your ruler, you will see it change shape to a pointer. When you click that pointer in the ruler, it will change to a resizing shape, and then you can drag your alignment guide out from your ruler.

Once you have the alignment guide on your page, you can change its orientation from vertical to horizontal, or the reverse, by pressing the option key while double-clicking the alignment guide. You can remove the guides by dragging them back onto their respective ruler, or all guides from the Pages View menu : Guides sub-menu. Also, with a selected object, do not overlook the X, Y coordinates fine alignment capability found on the Format panel : Arrange tab.

More help with Alignment Guides can be found from your Pages Help menu : Pages Help : Add images, shapes, and media : Position objects on a page : Use alignment guides.

Thank you for this explicit reply.

Unfortunately it doesn't tell me how to make ruler tick marks snappable to enable the user to place objects and guides accurately, e.g. at exactly 2.5cm instead of at 2.54cm. Selected objects can be positioned accurately using the XY-position input fields on the Arrange tab in the Format pane, but there seems to be no way to select a guide and use an associated field to input its exact position. Neither seems it to be possible to snap a guide to the edge of an accurately positioned object.😟

In the meanwhile, I'm convinced that there is no way in pages to do what I would like to. I'll survive.

Pages v5.6.1 does not have snap to grid, or snap to guide lines. For precise positioning of a selected object, you can directly enter the X, Y coordinate values in the Format Panel's Arrange tab:

Also, with the Preference settings I mentioned earlier, dragging your object around in your document will automatically pop up alignments with your document centerline, or with other objects. If you need finer grained control, then a more advanced application than Pages may be required.
