You see this in iTunes (on the Mac's screen)? Can you explain in more detail where you see it? There's the small "device button" on the horizontal bar in iTunes window, but that's probably not what you are describing because there is no "check mark" there.
Oh, so it appears on the iPhone's screen. This forum category is for iTunes for Mac, so I was confused...
Looking at my iPod touch, that icon only appears if the song has a local copy on the device (because I downloaded it). When I tap it, I get the options to Delete from My Music OR Remove Downloads. "Delete" means the song no longer appears in your iTunes library. "Remove" means downloaded copy of song is removed from device, but the song remains listed in your iTunes library (where it can be streamed or downloaded again).
