EL Capitan mail.app continuously downloading imap emails (godaddy account)

Device info:

el capitan mail.app (latest ver to date).

Summary of issue:

- godadd imap mail account continuously downloading emails.

- inbox doesn't show the most recent mail.

Attempts at resolution:

At an attempt to resolved this issue, I have used the mail.app rebuild feature, and also completely removed and re-added the mail account in question. with those attempts the mail.app still continuously downloads godaddy emails. Also my inbox doesn't show the most recent mail due to the continuous downloading issue. to mitigate this I can disconnect the re-connection to the godaddy server. this process will bring in new emails for a short period of time, but they disappear again after a few minutes.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

EXACTLY the same issue here, only difference is I'm experiencing the issue on a MacMini.

Godaddy had no ideas other than those listed above, which did not work for me either. This makes using Apple Mail the equivalent of shaving with ice cold water.

A separate, but perhaps related clue, is that Mail on this MacMini has never played nice with syncing 'flagged' emails. My other Macs all correctly sync the flagged emails but not the Mail loaded on this Mac Mini. Hmmm. (Apple has never been able to solve this, nor have a couple of my more savvy tech friends).

Staying tuned, but not holding my breath . . .

Thanks, my ginger. This seems like an interesting idea to consider. The short answer is "yes." I do use mail forwarding to send email to my apple mail client. However, the longer answer is that the only account affected by this issue is a Godaddy imap account that is NOT forwarded. Apple mail is directly pulling the mail from Godaddy servers -- and this account is not being forwarded anywhere. Hmmm.

Also, I have other boxes that are configured with Apple Mail for the same accounts (imap) and none of them are experiencing the problem that my Mac Mini is.

One last bit of info, the go daddy account that is getting repeatedly downloaded and ultimately not syncing has a fair bit of email on it. Maybe 2GB (it is an unlimited email storage account).

Don't know if any of this suggests a solution, but definitely appreciate the thought and any suggestions. Thanks.

ELCapitan brings in a new version of Mail. This requires yet another conversion of the Mail database and the Accounts database to yet another form.

Unencumbered by knowing anything about it, my solution -- as my mail has been clobbered again and again by all the upgrades -- was to write down all the information from the Accounts, delete all my Accounts (email and related accounts), and add them back one at a time. Eventually I got it to be quiet and work.

my Ginger/Grant, Thanks, and good points! Yes, it seems as if it should be either a settings issue or a 'build' of the mailboxes (plist, etc). And maybe it is, as sometimes the smallest error in checking settings can be missed... However, I did delete the plist files and rebuilt the mailboxes (all of them). Problem still re-occurred. I also used the account settings on a MBPro that is NOT having the problem to EXACTLY configure the settings in the problematic Godaddy account on the MacMini. Still No luck.

I have not yet deleted the MacMini Apple mail accounts however, as I've got a bunch of archived email stored using the 'on my mac' function and am afraid that in uninstalling the email accounts and trying to start 'clean' with the Apple Mail client I risk losing these. Is there a reasonably simple way to back up the 'on my mac' files to an external drive and then copy them back later? (without losing the tags -- name, date, size, etc., sorting capabilities). Thanks!

Got it! Thanks. Tho some of the ISP's I have email accounts with delete mail periodically (60 days) or when a box hits a certain size, so not all the mail on my MacMini is still available on the mail servers . . .

FYI -- while I suspect they are retrievable using Time Machine I was interested in knowing if there is a simple way to copy just them to an external hard drive and easily reinstall . . . Do you know of a way to do this? Thanks!

my ginger, yes, Godaddy is supposed to 'sync' with the apple mail client. As I understand it, my box should be comparing its contents to that on the Godaddy mail server account, and updating my box with any files that are not already on my box. However, what's happening -- and I think the same is happening for Sirip1 -- is that ALL the mail on Godaddy repeatedly tries to download to my local box, and along the way (usually after about 30 mins or so) finally stops and displays only emails from several years ago but not more recent ones. It's as if there is a 'limit' on the number of emails that the Apple Mail client is able to load and display? Strange! Again, thanks for the helpful thoughts!

Mak1apple, thanks for picking this up.

Currently I'm still experiencing the same issue. I am not forwarding any emails. I do have multiple accounts.

Make1apple you are right in saying "However, what's happening -- and I think the same is happening for Sirip1 -- is that ALL the mail on Godaddy repeatedly tries to download to my local box, and along the way (usually after about 30 mins or so) finally stops and displays only emails from several years ago but not more recent ones." with the added exception that I do not see an end to the continuous downloading.

I am also reluctant to remove all mails accounts and re-add them. but if it comes to it I will

Sirup - thanks for confirming and clarifying. And, yes, my problem (which continues!) is just like yours in that I also do not see an end to the continuous downloading. I had only meant to indicate that the 'reloading' continues for ~30 mins before it causes the 'inbox' of my affected account to only show long outdated emails. It then continues downloading without updating...

I see that there is a new El Capitan release now available. However, I am VERY LEERY of being an early updater to this. While it might contain something that fixes this situation, the last update seems to have caused it . . . So for now seems I'm stuck. At least until some OSX wizard can provide a rescue! Thanks.

Has anyone actually been able to fix this.

I have 3 godaddy email accounts that are constantly deleting/downloading. Only affect Mail on 10.11.2 (2 imacs) not iOS

Apple senior techs suggested reinstalling 10.11.2 - no luck. Then they said Mail was fine and it was a problem in Godaddy se that had only surfaced after the changes to Mail that were made in 10.11.2 (it's probably a complex protocol implementation question that is not simply one side's fault)

GoDaddy say it is Apple's problem as it was working before 10.11.2 and offered to reset the server side - No Luck

I do not know if I should wait for a fix, use a different mail client, or move my email accounts to gmail...
