AppleCare Student Discount Question.

Hey, I bought a MacBook Pro 5 months ago through student discount in the apple shop in Covent Garden, but I was not offered AppleCare whatsoever. This was my first Mac purchase so I was unaware of any additional purchase that could up your warranty, and for over 50% discount? I would have jumped at it.

Ive only become aware of this but it's 5 months down the line, can I still purchase AppleCare with the student discount applied? I've heard so many different things such as -

- I don't need AppleCare, as I bought my mac through student discount so I already have a 3 year warranty.

- You can purchase AppleCare with the discount applied in the first 12 months.

- You need to purchase AppleCare WITH the MacBook in order to get the discount.

Please could someone clear this up for me?

Thankyou.

Check your coverage here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com

I recently bought a MacBook Pro with the education discount and still had to buy AppleCare for it, so I don't think it comes with a 3 year warranty because of the education discount.

You can buy AppleCare Protection Plan for up to a year after purchase: http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD014LL/A/applecare-protection-plan-for-macboo k-macbook-air-13-macbook-pro If you did not buy at the time of purchase, you may need to call Apple to find out about the education discount.

It should, it is the policy for everyone. http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD014LL/A/applecare-protection-plan-for-macboo k-macbook-air-13-macbook-pro

From above link:

Important Note

The AppleCare Protection Plan can be purchased only while your Mac is still covered under the standard one-year limited warranty. See AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditionsfor complete product details.

Yes you can buy Applecare with the student discount. You have up to one yr to buy the upgrade warranty- has to be bought and registered before your one yr warranty expires.

It is easy enough to do over the phone, mention you want the student discount.

And as I wasn't offered the choice when I made the purchase I feel I'm entitled to the discounted price,

I Really can't afford to fork out the full price of the applecar, and I think it's so wrong they didn't offer me it on the spot, I would have bought it there and then! I'll have to go and ask for a manager tomorrow at the store.

You can easily purchase and register via a phone call to AppleCare, you don't have to talk to a manager, you still can get your student discount.

Hmm yeah I see, it doesn't say anything about the student discount though. I was in the Apple Store today and he said you had to buy it on the day of your MacBook purchase. But several people from the apple live chat and phone support say you can purchase it within a year.

Confusing! Haha.

Just to make sure - it's irrelevant that I bought it instore right? I can still purchase the AppleCare with student discount?

A purchase is a purchase, independent of where and how. I don't know how else to say it.

Yes, you can still purchase the AppleCare with student discount.

AppleCare covers hardware defects, not accidental damage. Sorry.

Some countries dictate longer warranty than 1 year. Not sure which ones. As to general "consumer law", I guess you would have to prove it was a "lemon" (badly put together, a loser from day one) but consumer-law attorneys know better than I.
