Sometimes my iPad plays a song without Music App launched.

This doesn't happen often so I haven't figured out what I'm doing to initiate this. But some times I'll be using my iPad Air and close something (I think this is when this happens) and it has nothing to do with Music and the Music App isn't launched, and all of a sudden, a random song will start to play.

Checking my launched Apps, Music is not on. The only way to stop it is to slide the bottom screen menu up and there I will see the song that is playing and I can pause it.

Does anyone know what this behavior is about and how to stop it from happening, Or why it happens? Any info will be helpful.

Thanks,

Steven

I've heard of this happening but never heard the cause. When you pull the Control Center up and see the song playing can you tell what app the music is coming from ? After listening to music do you double click the home button and swipe the app up to make sure it's closed. The music apps with their ability to play in the background are the only apps that need this force closing to be sure they're closed.

Thanks Bob. The odd part is that I don't see any app open when I double press the home button, if I have some apps open, closing them doesn't stop the music. If I open the Music app, it doesn't show the song that's playing, as playing, but pressing Pause there will stop the music.

In the slider area, the song title is listed and pressing pause there too stops it.

So it doesn't seem to be coming from Music, or any identifiable, or obviously open app. Luckily, it happens infrequently and is stoppable. But... there have been times in business meetings where music will start, which is inappropriate since often if a class, we're supposed to have our phones on vibrate which the music is not silenced by, so I find myself fumbling to get my phone out and get to the pause key ASAP.

In order to mimic an iPod, the rest of the iGadget menagerie can and will play music "in the background" without having the Music app explicitly showing in the foreground. As Bob mentions, if you open the Control Center (slide up from the bottom edge), it should tell you which one is sourcing the jingles. On my iPhone, I've seen it come from Music, Shazam and even one of the various Internet Radio apps. As to why it starts all of a sudden, check the alarms section of the standard Clock app (or anything similar you may have installed). Some "friend" might have tricked you and set up alarms to go off at inappropriate moments, and any alarm can use any of the sound sources available.

You're welcome. Did you check if an alarm had been set and and a music source choosen ?

The easiest solution is to Mute your iPhone before class. On my iPad I can do this by holding the volome down button until it Mutes or pullup Control Center and tap the Mute icon.

Next comes basic troubleshooting, reset, reset all settings, restore.

To reset press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait until your iPhone starts on it's own.

If it continues go to settings> general> reset> reset all settings. No data us lost but you will have to enter your wifi passcde so before you know it befor doing this step.

I don't have a clue how to restore your iPhone. It needs a computer and iTunes and I don't have either of thm.

If you find it's something completely different please post back with the solution. Thank you.
