EFI Firmware Update 1.2

Is anyone else having this issue?

machine worked fine after update, until it slept and woke.
after the machine woke, it shut off. you can turn it back on but the safe sleep function doesn't work. also while using the machine it will randomly shut itself off. when power on is attempted the power led glows, no chime. I've reset the PRAM and SMC. repaired permissions found a .efi file with improper permissions. also my optical drive refuses to mount/read any DVDs. battery is at full charge and mains power is used. on some reboots the system powers on for 1 second then back off approx 4 times then off. it has even died just after boot while I was logging in. I don't have access to my install DVDs although it doesnt look like that would help as it can't read DVDs. sorry for the rambling, its 4:30 am and I have a paper due tomorrow.

the firmware installed correctly, the optical drive can read CD's just not DVDs, I've contacted an apple technician and he said the onyl recourse is to wait for the next firmware update and apply that one, or come down and he has a logic board with 1.1 firmware loaded. my laptop only reboots if you change power states, ie wake from sleep or turn on from cold powerdown.

I just recieved a firmware update for my macbook pro 17" I updated the firmware as per instructions. Restarted the machine got a loud single beep got the light blinking got the progress bar which said firmware being updated. but after that machine never restarted...I tried everything...I get the light in the button in front but The screen remains all black. I am new to all this could someone please help.

What I don't seem to understand is how come a company like Apple upload such a faulty firmware upgrade without testing it. And that too with such fatal consequences.

Please Help.

Adnan

I have a similarly bad issue with the update. The kernel panicked during the firmware update and the machine just froze. I then created the restore CD, which wasn't read and stayed locked in the drive. I sent it in for repair and suspect that they will have to replace the controller that was being updated. Since i write firmware for FPGAs i will point out that, if it ain't broke, don't fix it... firmware updates are a notoriouslt dicey maneuver that one should probably refrain from doing unless totally necessary. keep your apple care up to date
