Lost aperture library

Hey, been using Aperture for a while now, today imported new image into Aperture and when it started up all my existing photos/projects had gone. Ive tried locating and switching to the only other libraries i can find but no luck. I haven't deleted any folder/photos/libraries etc. Is there a hidden library?! somewhere im not looking?

Thanks

Which version of Apeture 3 are you using?

Where is your Aperture library stored? O an external drive or in your Pictures folder?

Do you ave any backup dries connected? Sometimesaccidentally an older Aperture version from a backup is launched and then the running version cannot open your current library. Or, if the drive with your Aperture library is nout mounted and accesible, aperture will create a new, empty library in your Pictures folder.

I have an external drive, issue is im not sure where the library is, i.e. say when i import new files from a camera, it saves them onto the library right?! well im not sure which or where this library is. At the moment i can see an 'iPhoto library' AND a 'PHOTOS library on my external drive'. Cant seen to see any libraries on my MAC itself.

Also worth mentioning, Aperture is now referencing an older library with pics i haven t used for ages, so yes it seems to have switched libraries somehow

You have probably opened your iPhoto/Aperture library in the new Photos for Mac application. That will have changed the filename extension of the library. Change it back.

  • Select the iPhoto Library on the external drive.
  • Press the key combination ⌘I to open the Info panel.
  • In the Info panel open the "Filename and Extension section. Uncheck the flag "Hide Extension".
  • Then change the filemane extension of the library back to ".photolibrary".

Now ctrl-click the Library and select "Open with Aperture".

Can you open the library this way in Aperture?

When i go to FILE > Switch to Library on Aperture, it is referencing the iPhoto library already on my external drive. Ive looked at the total size of this library and the number of files in it and adds up, so the photos im missing CANNOT possibly be in this library as I would have a library size far greater than the 22GB library size showing (6000 files).

Something tells me i was using another library, just can't seem to find anything else....

double click the Photos library to open it and see, if it contains your Photos.

If your photos should be in the Photos Library, search for a library with the file name extension ".migratedaplibrary".

  • Open a Finder window and type ".migratedaplibrary" into the search field.
  • Set the "Kind to "Migrated Aperture Library".
  • Set the scope to "This Mac".
