Why does thinkorswim hang under OS X 10.11.2?

I have been using the Thinkorswim trading platform (TOS) since 2011. Today I upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan and TOS stopped working. It hangs right after I sign in.

Steps taken:

- I downloaded TOS an did a fresh install (deleting the old version).

- I called TOS tech support and the technician was unable to resolve the issue but he told me that it was a net BIOS problem.

System: iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB 1333 MHz DDr3

I'd appreciate any advice to resolve this situation.

After connecting with Thinkorswim (TOS) support I resolved this issue and would like to post the steps for other with similar issues.

Problem: Thinkorswim stopped working (app hung at the sign in) after upgrading to El Capitan.

- The reason for TOS hanging at the sign in was because the Host Name and the Host File didn't match. This happened in the process of upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan.

Solution:

1 - Open Terminal and type hostname and hit enter (exclude quotes)

2 - Copy the entire line that appears below. It starts with the computer name. i.e.: computer name.router name.home

3 - Type sudo nano /private/etc/hosts and hit enter

4 - Enter the password to the system and hit enter (nothing will show on the screen when you are typing the password

5 - Use the arrow keys (mouse won't work) and place the cursor on the leftmost position and Below the line that starts with 127.... Mine was 127.0.0.1

6 - Hit enter to insert a line

7 - Enter the same number sequence from the line above and hit the tab key

8 - Paste the line that you copied in step 2 and hit enter

9 - Press the key Control and the letter O at the same time to save it

10- Press the key Control and the letter O at the same time to exit.

Launch Thinkorswim (TOS). It should work.
