Lately I noticed that iTunes changes a certain genre name "House", to the number 35 as soon as I click on the track to play it. This happens only to older tracks with the genre name ''House''. I keep changing them back one by one but this can not go on like this. Can anyone relate to this problem and knows how to fix it?

From My Music tab in iTunes , chose Genres and then look down the list, Right Click on the Genres you want and select Get info , Edit Items and then select the Dance Genre for them all there. If as you said, all the tracks have change to 35, they should be in the same group, so this makes it easier to do it all in one go.
That's a weirdly specific problem... As a test, what happens if you change the genre to something slightly different, like "House Test." Does that song's genre still get changed to "35" by iTunes?
I have nearly 10,000 tracks on my iTunes and found it was a nightmare on times sorting out all of the Genres. Some tunes that were imported would say Pop and you'd think they would all go into the same genre but no. I figured out that some Pop tracks had a space after the Pop, so iTunes would see this as a different Genre and get confused. The one that I couldn't figure out for ages, was the Hip-Hop/Rap it should be Hip Hop/Rap (no - ) .. iTunes lists it with a - on their here page, but in iTunes it does not have it.

No only the house genre.
My problem is not that I don't know how to change the genre name of many songs at once, the problem is that it changes the already set genre name to the number 35.
Try doing it for all that Genre this way...
If that does not work, change all of the Tracks to MISCS via the drop Down and see what happens .. Then Try the steps above ...
Try clearing the cookies out of iTunes... I use ccleaner ... always seems to do the trick when meta data messes up and genres mix up.... Might work for you.
As a work-around, you should select all of your songs with genre "House" in iTunes, do a Get Info on them, and change the genre to something like "House+" (or something that means the same thing to you).

Looking at the link welshcatholic provided, and kind of understanding what it might be doing, I wonder if a genre reference file in the application is corrupt. You could try re-installing the application.
