Final Cut Pro 7 and Sony DSR-45 not communicating, why?

This Mac Pro desktop is a 2 x2 2.6 quad core with 12 GB memory. My OS is 10.6.8 so that Final Cut Pro 7 is stable. I have connected a Sony DSR-45. It's been disconnected (uplugged) for awhile but now I have to access some video tape media. I have the DSR connected via the DV cable in back to firewire in on the Mac (directly into the back of the Mac). When I try log and capture, the dialogue box says the software is unable to initialize the HDV unit. I checked the 'more info' under about this mac, and then the firewire option, and the dsr shows up. Oh, and the DSR is set to remote.

I have unplugged the DSR, tried two different cables, and restarted the Mac.

Any ideas why they aren't talking?

Thank you.
