iPhone 6 Plus will not back up to iCloud even after complete restore as suggested by Apple

My iPhone 6 Plus had not backed up to iCloud since November so I called Apple support. As I'd tried all logical ideas they suggested backing up to Mac and then deleting everything and restore form the Mac. This is now done but phone will still not back up to iCloud. iPad has no problem so it's not a wifi problem. Any help gratefully received.

The only reason that I can think off - you have something on your phone that stops backup. In similar situation one of the apps allowing to use secure mail was blocking the backup. You can find that info here under D.

Backup problems after ios 9

You may have tried some of the following:

Please check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi) and is plugged into a power source, also check that you have enough space in iCloud for your back up.

You can check the space available at settings > iCloud > Storage and the space needed for the next back up at Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > BackUps > This Device > Back Up Options > Next back up Size (wait for the spinning gear icon to finish).

Assuming you meet the requirements for iCloud back up, you should try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the side/top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it by pressing the side/top button.

Next, try connecting the device in a new location (different WiFi network)

If your back up continues to fail, you might try turning off BackUp on your mobile device (Settings > iCloud > BackUp), restarting the device and then turning BackUp back on again.

If this doesn’t help turn BackUp off again, delete your existing back up from Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > BackUps > This Device (scroll down to the bottom) > Delete BackUp, restart the device and then turn BackUp back on again.

If you are still unable to complete a back up, try signing out of iCloud (Settings > iCloud (scroll down to the bottom) > Sign Out (you will need to enter your password at this stage), restart the device and sign back into iCloud at Settings > iCloud.

The next thing to try would be to reset your network settings. (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings)

Resetting your network settings will clear your current cellular and wifi network settings, including saved networks, wifi passwords and any VPN settings you might use. It will affect internet connectivity but won’t impact on telephone services since these settings are auto configured by your carrier. It may take a few moments to re-enter all your network settings but it shouldn’t cause you any major problems. If you are comfortable re-entering your network settings, you may wish to try this step a little earlier in the troubleshooting procedure, say after the forced shutdown suggested above.

If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device. You can do this at Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > BackUps > This Device > Back Up Options.

If you still aren’t able to complete a back up to iCloud, you may wish to try restoring your phone which you should do by making a back up to iTunes via your computer and restoring from that.

Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable. However if you back up to iTunes be sure to encrypt the back up if you want to keep your health data and passwords etc.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I've now discovered from Apple Support that's it's a common problem but not everyone is experiencing it. They are aware of the problem - shame they didn't tell me last week and saved me 48 hours!! - it's an Apple software problem after upgrading to iOS 9 and they are working in it. Hope this answer helps others in the same situation. In the meantime it's sit and wait and back up to my Mac!

I believe you were provided outdated information, backup problems were mostly resolved by Apple after 9.1, most of people who had problems are not having anymore. I can usually judge by discussions threads here - they are singular, unlike before they were in hundreds. Something stops those singular people (including you) from backup locally, but you are more then welcome to wait, just do not hold your breath. If you d like to verify, you can again backup to iTunes, then erase your phone and when setup as new it will backup no problem. It is past restoring from backup, there is something that is placed on your phone, that stops it's ability to backup. Instructions that I provided in the link do help to pinpoint that.

This is accurate information. I have the same problem. My iCloud has not successfully backed up since Oct 22 and after many hours of support from Genius bar and phone support they gave me a new phone last night!! But, still can't back up with iCloud. So, I would hope Apple is working on a fix because I don't think they will like giving out new phones in desperate attempt to solve this problem.

I am just saying this is not singular as you assumed and that your troubleshooting instructions, however very helpful, did not apply to my case. Again, after about 3.5 total hours of support from Apple they decided to hold their breath and give me a new phone to see if that did the trick. It is clear that the problem exists in 9.2 whereas it did not in 9.1 on both my iphone 6 plus and on PippyJ's.

create a new apple id and icloud account to see if its backing up. its not possible to have any problem with the phone cause you can not use just cloud server,s back up service.

its a problem that will be fixed by Apple in time. In my opinion when they move the fulled back up drives accounts lost their way and can not keep override a back up. if you create a new account and back up this can be the main reason.

I also can say use the icloud for sync services not for back up. Back your data to your computer via itunes larger and safer back ups
