Why is iTunes putting same artist multiple times?

I recently added a song to iTunes (from soundcloud) and edited the metadata to add the artist name. It showed up as a separate tab in iTunes even though it was the same name artist? Then I removed the name from all songs and renamed them the same artist, now all the songs are in separate tabs?User uploaded file

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes reimporting the artist works others it doesn't. Ive noticed sorting in get info is showing as Mixed despite being only one artist and it will not save my changes.

Currently I have multiple listings artists, compilations all over the place, missing/incorrect artwork. It wouldn't be such an issue had I not spent hours after the last two updates replacing; artwork, metadata and lost songs etc. On 14,319 items it's time consuming, i'm strating to lose my patience with how controlling apple seem to want to be. An update is fine when it is an improvement to the software but asetic changes should be options not mandatory.

😢😟😠

I'd appreciate solutions to these issues

This Solution did NOT work for me but it led to a solution. Itunes is seeing the tracks/chapters/books/album as different due to something like a different spelling or an added space in some metadata field.

I marked all the items I wanted grouped under an artist name, then in 'get info' I made global changes until I found the field that itunes saw as different. The most common one the I've identified so far is an additional space, usually after the artist name.

Thanks to everyone for all the input,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I'm glad you figured it out however what you did is but a variation of what I described. The field of "artist" or "album" is where the problem lies. All the other fields have to be different from each other as that is what makes each track unique. What Apple can't or won't fix lies in some buried not visible information within the metadata of the "artist" or "album" field. I have filled in those fields using copy + paste method dozens of times so there was never a missing period, space or spelling.

For example I've done the global changes for both "album" and "artist" and in iTunes on my desktop everything was fine but when I viewed them on my Apple TV they split up enlisted in multiple groups. I t wasn't until I repeated the same steps at least twice before they grouped properly on Apple TV.

If it were so simple this support message board would not be filled with so many frustrated users.

This is just one of many issues that won't get fixed simply because it is not that big a problem. Adobe and Apple have a relationship that for example won't fix (Photoshop/ Illustrator) problems that pop up whenever new OS is introduced. Adobe will not fix "Flash" or other software issues so that it's graphics applications are transferable. Having spent over a thousand dollars on Adobe Creative Suite I am not willing to cave in to Adobe's "cloud" rental program which mostly business owners can afford. Adobe's solution to its's lower end users is simple, spend more money.

This has been driving me crazy but I think I may have found the reason it's doing it, at least with regard to audiobooks which is where I have the problem. When you add an audiobook to the library it first shows up as music. Then you change the type to audiobook and move on with your life. However, there are different fields visible to audiobooks than to music. So you need to make everything music again, THEN change the artist and either make the album artist the same or just blank it out. Album artist isn't visible when you change the type to audiobook but it still is being used to separate the authors so they appear twice or more times.

I would think there may be something similar with people seeing the problem with their music. Try changing the type to something else and see if there's something different among them. I'd start by making a single playlist with the artist or author like other people have suggested because it makes it a lot easier.

i don't expect a reply form iTunes support since they haven't done anything so far... but this is a message for THEM !

if like me you're stomached please comment till they move their *¨$ù` to fix this issue shortly...

I have same Artist name perfectly and exactly named the same, i checked also the "sort" name, everything.

When checked form one perspective album is complete in the right artist name. BUT

I got 15 time the same artist and the album is scattered randomly in those artist name (exactly Same).

That is to say, WE ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM for now almost ONE YEAR.

WHERE IS THE APPEL SUPPORT ??? THIS IS A VERY VERY BASIC FEATURE OF ITUNES THAT WORKED WELL BEFORE !!! PLEASE FIX IT
