My shirt cuff causes the watch to lock

Whenever the cuff of my shirt slides in between the Apple Watch and my wrist, the watch goes into locked mode. So I do not receive any notifications, and I have to enter the code again to unlock the watch.

Because of the policy enforced by the MS Exchange server I'm using, I can't disable the code lock. If I am to wear the watch any tighter, it would be uncomfortable, having the sensor dome pressing down on the same spot on my wrist all day long.

So I'm looking for a software solution for this. Can a future Watch OS please be less sensitive to shirt fabric coming in between the wrist and the watch?

Your photograph suggests that you may be wearing your watch too loosely.

For the best results from features including Wrist Detection, the Taptic Engine and the heart rate sensor, the back of your watch needs to be in contact with your skin. Wearing it with the right fit (neither too tight nor too loose, with room for your skin to breathe) should be sufficiently comfortable, whilst also allowing the sensors to operate properly:

Keep in mind that Wrist Detection and Passcode help to protect your data. They are also both required in order to use Apple Pay, serving to authenticate your identity when making purchases in stores.

If you do not wish to wear your watch more snugly, a workaround may be to fold back your shirt cuff.

How does one disable "wrist detection"? I do not want to disable the passcode since I use ApplePay.

Both Wrist Detection and Passcode are required in order to use Apple Pay on Apple Watch. Turning off Wrist Detection will cause cards to be removed automatically. To turn off Wrist Detection, on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection.

By the way: although your query is on a related subject, it is different to the question asked here (which has already been answered). Different questions should be asked in new threads. If others later have the same query, this also makes it easier for them to find - hopefully along with an answer.

I'm wearing this watch just the way I'm wearing any of my other watches: Loose enough so that it's possible to move the watch, and get some air in between the watch and wrist. The watch is in contact with the skin most of the time, but sometimes, when I move my arms, the shirt gets in between for a short while.

If I were to wear the watch any tighter, the curved back of the watch would be putting a constant pressure on a single point on my wrist, for the whole day. I did try that, and it is not comfortable at all.

There should be a feature that let you calibrate the watch for individual pieces of fabric, so that the sensors would recognize them, and not lock the watch.

Your point is well taken, however I do not know of any forums that do not tolerate a simple query on a point related to the OP. In this particular case, I did not think my quest merited a new thread.

From my point of view, if the technology was available to not force start the passcode as long as the watch is within 1/8" of one's skin then a range of problems could be resolved for no small number of users. Yes. I will use Apple feedback to record my suggestion.
