Adding files to zip folder

I found this exact question on the forums, the newest being 2012, but I wanted to know if there has been a fix to the most recent software update. While I have only been using Mac for 6 months and am definitely not an expert, this seems like an easy thing to implement. Windows does it- drag and drop file to existing zip file and it is auto added. Mac seems to always require 3rd party software for the simplest of tasks.

I just tried dragging and dropping a file to a zipped file and it did not work, so my suspicion is that there is still no native way to accomplish this. Suggestions?

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Thank you for the reply. I had a hunch my suspicion was true. It is disappointing that Apple cannot make something as simple as a drag and drop work on their OS- or more likely (I hope) the programmers don't want to. Most of the responses for complaints seem to be, "It isn't that bad" or, "Well, why would you want to do that anyway?"- like Apple users can't come to grips that Windows does some things better? Thanks again for your help.

There hasn't been, that I'm aware of. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac ownership — you'll soon learn that just because you can do it in Windows, doesn't mean you can do it in OS X. They're two different animals, and you shouldn't go into it thinking that because something was easy or even just doable in one, it will be the same in the other. It may seem like a pain in the butt, but your only option is to open the zip folder, add whatever you need to it, then re-compress it. It's not that labor intensive, and while there might be some third-party apps out there that let you do the drag-and-drop, why bother? Don't put unnecessary programs on your computer.
