If you want songs to sync automatically to iPod, it needs to be set up that way. Otherwise, the iPod "syncs" but does not sync anything. With current iTunes, the default setting is for manual loading of songs.
To check, select the iPod in iTunes (click its device button on horizontal bar) to show its settings screen in iTunes window. Along left side (in the sidebar), under Settings, click Music. To the right, the iPod's Music settings screen is shown. Is the checkbox for Sync Music checked?
NOTE: If it's not checked, and you check it, any songs on iPod that are not in your iTunes library (on computer) will be lost.
If that screen needs to be set up, you can post back for more info. If this is not the cause of your iPod's syncing issues, please post back with more details.
Thank you. The Sync Music box was checked.
Down at the bottom of that screen where is says Audio when i hover over it with my mouse it says 770MB 140 Songs.
I did run the diagnostic sync test yesterday and it stated no ipod touch, iphone or ipad found.

That makes sense, if only your iPod nano is connected.

So, what you are saying is, iTunes says there are 140 songs on the iPod, but when you use the iPod, you don't see any of those songs. If so, do a Reset (restart) on the iPod

If the songs are still not there when using the iPod, the cause is likely to be data corruption on the iPod's storage. You may want to do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes. This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings. The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes.

After the Restore, sync your songs back as desired. If the iPod does not have any hardware issues, the problem should be resolved.
I did the restore. Brings up the screen to set up and when i hit the button it says The Ipod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-39).
I hit ok and it goes thru the syncing in itunes and on ipod.
But when it is done, there are no songs on my ipod.
I don't know about the error, but if the Restore was successful, the iPod is set by default to load songs manually, not using automatic syncing. If you want to set it up to use automatically syncing (not load manually by dragging songs to iPod in iTunes), select iPod in iTunes to show its settings screen in iTunes window. Along left side (in the sidebar), under Settings, click Music. To the right, the iPod's Music settings screen is shown.
To turn ON automatic syncing, checkmark the box for Sync Music. Below that, if your complete music library can fit on iPod, choose the option to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres; then make choices from the lists below. Click Apply to sync iPod with selection. Going forward, iTunes keeps iPod "in sync" with your iTunes library (based on how you set up this screen) when you connect it (or click Sync if already connected).
