Why is my apple watch not opening text messages when I raise my wrist?

When I raise my wrist it will show me that I have a message but I have to actually tap on it to get it to open. I had another one before this one and when I raised my wrist it would show me that I had a text message and then it would automatically open it. Is there a setting I am missing?

Check that you have enabled Wrist Detection and Wake Screen on Wrist Raise.

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General:

- Wrist Detection - turn on.

- Wake Screen > check that Wake Screen on Wrist Raise is enabled.

If these settings are already configured, it may help to restart both your iPhone and your watch. Turn both devices off together first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch:

- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;

- To turn it on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
