I can't get my apple TV remote to control my apple tv. Both of them are third generation. If I press a button on the remote, the light on the Apple TV blinks, but nothing happens. I tried holding down home and right key, as Apple instructs to pair the two... no luck. The light blinks, but I can't control anything.

Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

This isn't helping me. The aluminum remote will not pair or unpair with my 3rd gen Apple TV, so I can't navigate within it. I've done everything suggested on .com, and in the forums. What am I missing?

I'm having this same problem with a 3rd Gen Apple TV and aluminum remote. I've followed the online instructions. I've restored the Apple TV - it's on and I can see the main screen, however, I can't navigate within it. I've replaced the 2032 battery in the remote. I've tried to pair/unpair multiple times - unresponsive. Any other suggestions?
When you press the remotes buttons, does the light on the ATV respond at all?

Also try a new battery in remote .
