I have the same issue with my iPhone 6s and no solution. the carrier say it's Apple's fault Apple says it's carrier's fault... I'm fed up as I did everything the Genius and Apple Care told me to do + the Carrier told me to do changed my sim resetted my phone settings 6 times... and no solution...
Very good job Apple !
I had to pay for 100USD only for activation sms messages.
Why the **** they used SMS for Activation as you have Data WiFi of 3G or 4G/LTE to do the same thing ? why the **** use this old fashioned sms think?
Check Settings > Phone > My Phone Number is correct
Aloha, has anyone found an answer to this issue yet? I'm having the exact same problem and nothing has worked!! It's so frustrating because I just got this phone on a brand nEw account with T-Mobile only 6 months ago.......
Hi, I have the same problem as the original poster.
I did all of the apple support instructions. I also tried searching for some answers and tried everything.
My number doesn't show up still.
When I try a different SIM card, it's number appears.
I'm still waiting for the apple engineer to reply back soon.
I agree. Anyone? Daughter's phone - same thing. Super mega frustrating. The phone number just doesn't appear as an option for Message or FaceTime. In addition - same errors when trying to activate either.
Obviously this is because iPhone can't recognize the Phone number as it does not appear. I believe this is because of a faulty sim card.
I am heading to the "TelCel" Store in Mexico, to see if changing the sim card will do the trick, which i am pretty sure is the fault here. Will let everyone know what happens.

I changed my SIM card :( still same problem... I'm beginning to think maybe it's phone number related??? Not sure how but I did have an iPhone 6 years ago roughly... with the same number not same carrier though.... not sure It has any connection.... iMessage online says the number isn't associated with iMessage though I really just don't know! Soo frustrating I admit hehe! Let me know if anything works
Hello,
First thing is to do is to check your Mobile balance. Because to activate iMessage's and Facetime, there is a charge of Rs.5 or something.
Recently, one of my friends faced the same issue and once we loaded the balance into that particular number, the number got activated into both iMessage and Facetime.
Let me know if this is worked for you or not.
This has been bugging me for a long time. I have an old iphone, that I have been using as an ipod. The phone number would not become solid, no matter what I did, so, I just tried something off the wall, and it worked. I had an old SIM card, and swapped it out, and suddenly, my phone number became solid. I then took the SIM card out, and it stayed solid. Cross your fingers, because it worked for me. I can now message, and facetime on my old iPhone.
You are awesome! My number was not showing under iMessages and apple support could not fixed it. I updated my number as suggested by you with apple id and it worked in 10 seconds. You da mvp mabaeyens!!
I had the same problem I finally after reading blogs after blogs and following step by step any suggestion, I found the solution.
First go and check if your Apple ID account is set up with your phone number.
Log in: https://appleid.apple.com
Go into your account and see under “Reachable at” that your phone number is listed. If not click on edit and add your number.
Go into ALL of your apple IOS devices in your Messages and Facetime and log out of your Apple ID.
Iphone, Ipad:
Go to Settings, Messages and Facetime, scroll down to Send & Receive, sign out of your Apple ID.
Macbook, iMac:
Go into Messages, Preferences, Accounts and sign out of your Apple ID
After you signed out on every IOS device, go back in your iPhone, iPad, Macbook, iMac and sign in with your Apple ID in messages and Facetime.
Your devices should recognize your phone number on each device.
When initially trying to activate iMessage and Facetime on my iPad, I had a problem with being able to access my phone number. When I signed into my account (on my iPad), I actually wasn't even presented with the option of a phone number - notwithstanding the fact that I was contacting others (and being reached by others) by my phone number on my iPhone. Having both the iPad and the iPhone on, I kept trying to turn off and on both iMessage and Facebook in "Settings" on both my iPad and iPhone, hoping that that they would eventually sync. But this proposed solution by others was unsuccessful for me.
So: I was able to send & receive messages (as well as contact others via Facetime); in "Settings", my "Date & Time" was "Set Automatically" to "On"; and I even tried to turn off the Wi-Fi and sync via Cellular Data only. None of these proposed solutions worked.
Then, I found out what the problem was: When my iPhone was originally activated, it automatically registered my phone number for contact purposes. But I was using iMessage on my iPhone for quite some time without actually being signed into my Apple ID account. When another device - such as an iPad or iPod - is being used for iMessage or Facebook, you are prompted to sign into your Apple account, using your username and password. These two devices will not register your phone number as an option for contact unless your iPhone is signed into your Apple account as well. In other words: your phone number will not be synced.
Go into your "Settings" on your iPhone and click on "Messages". Scroll down and click on "Send & Receive" (which should be followed by your phone number). On the next page, you will be able to determine whether or not your iPhone is using the Apple ID for messaging purposes. (Note: This information applies for Facetime as well.) If it is using your Apple ID for messaging, than at the top, you will see "Apple ID: <your particular e-mail account>" in Blue text. However, if you are not using your Apple ID for messaging, than you will see the words: "Use your Apple ID for message". Even though below this you will see your phone number checked as the contact source, you will want to click the tab that says, "Use your Apple ID for message". Sign into your account (just as you must sign in for iMessage on your other devices), and just choose your phone number as the "Send & Receive" contact. (The option of the e-mail will be there too, but you don't have to check it. And later on, you can delete it as an option.)
Now that all of your devices are signed in using your Apple ID, the other devices should register your phone number as a choice. It may take a little while, however. What I did was sign out of iMessage on my iPad, and then sign in again. If the option didn't appear, I just went back and signed in again, and kept doing this until the option for the phone number appeared.
Again, this will work for Facetime as well. The solution is to sync your iPhone account with the other devices by using your Apple ID for messaging (and Facetime) purposes.
After I got new iPhone 8 I had this issue , suddenly lost my phone number in ipad and iPhone. I did most of the above:
1_ I signed out from all devices
2- went to Apple page added my phone number in edit section
3- update iOS
4- recharged my card balance
5- signed agaIn in all devices
and finally found my my phone number again, so I checked it and its working
many thanks specially to MYonel and Liliani.ng
Hello there haya102,
It sounds like you need to get your phone number associated with your Apple ID. This section of the following article should help you out here and get that accomplished:
Link your iPhone number and Apple ID to use iMessage and FaceTime
If your phone number is missing on your iPad or iPod touch
Sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all of your iOS devices:
- Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
- Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign back in to iMessage and FaceTime on all of your iOS devices:
- Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap Use your Apple ID for iMessage. Then sign back in with your Apple ID.
- Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime. Then sign back in with your Apple ID.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
If that doesn't work sign out of your apple id under Settings > Facetime. Settings > general > reset > Reset all settings (won't delete data but It will remove your wallpaper and passcode.)
Then log back in under FaceTime.
Now look at the settings.
Hello,
I really did all the above steps but my phone number still not listed in the Imessage !
What shell I do?
I don't want to format my phone!
iMessage is not showing my phone number
