I, too, started with something I recall as Home Accountant but, it was for the Apple.
Yes: Home Accountant was the program I started with in 1979 for my original Apple ][+. Being so slow, I eventually researched DOS enhancers and discovered that Home Accountant could be substantially faster using Diversi-DOS; before moving over to Time Is Money on the Apple ][ platform.

When I left Classic behind in 2008, I went to Quicken 2007 which I would have continued to use except that I was advised by both Quicken and my credit card company that they were discontinuing to support transaction downloads for Quicken 2007. So, I decided to upgrade to Quicken 2015 and I dislike it even more than Q2007.
Unfortunately, I think you were given bad advice!
If you use auto-download to obtain your Quicken transactions, maybe this advice is true. But in a world where nothing is safe online, the last thing I am going to do is give Intuit all of my financial log-ins and passwords! I use manual QIF downloading once a month from each of my financial institutions and easily IMPORT them into the appropriate Quicken account. I get ALL of my transactions into Quicken and I sleep well at night!

It's kind of too late! I have reestablished recurring transactions, reconciled all accounts, and, most important, converted my wife to Q2015! I'm stuck!
Maybe not! Depending upon how current your last transactions were in Quicken 2007, compared the amount of time it would take to then update these transactions to today and reconcile. But from your tone, it looks like too much work for you! 😟
