Chrome no longer supporting 10.6.8

Hi, I have the following iMac setup -

imac 8.1

OS x 10.6.8

Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 duo

Memory 2GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I have been using Chrome as my internet browser, and today, when I opened up Chrome, I received a message that Chrome was no longer supporting OS X 10.6.8.

I tried to update my OS software by going to Apple software update, and was informed that my software is up to date.

Can I update my OS to a higher level, so that I would be able to use Chrome that would be supported?

Are there any other options for me other than using Chrome with no support

1. Buy a download code for Lion or Mountain Lion from the online Apple Store, or download El Capitan from the Mac App Store. You should back up your data, install more RAM in the computer, and check your applications for compatibility first.

2. Try using Firefox.

A model identifier 8.1 iMac will support the newest OSXs. You may purchase from the online store Lion or Mt. Lion and install those in your iMac or download from the App store El Capitan for free.

You may also consider a dual boot iMac, with Snow Leopard on one volume and a newer OSX on the other.

How does one go about "installing more RAM on your computer"?

Would Apple store do that?

Buy it from a source such as OWC or Crucial; installation instructions are available on their websites as well as Apple's Support site.

To add to Niel's recommendation, I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

Just wanted to provide an update.

I purchased the additional RAM, installed it and today downloaded El Capitan
