Iphone 5 and LTE support

Original factory unlocked iphone 5 (A1428, Model ME486LL/A), ios 7.1.1. Under setting/celluar, there is only "enable 3G" option. With a LTE SIM card from Ting/T-mobile, it can only support 3G. From T-mobile site, it said they support this particular iphone 5. Is there anything I need to do to support LTE on this phone? Everywhere I looked suggested that I should see an "enable LTE" under setting/celluar, but I do not have it.

Well, since we are already on iOS 9.2.1, and you are still back on iOS 7.1, it may have something to do with it. Carrier profile updates usually come at the same time as the iOS updates, so if you have been refusing the iOS updates, then it could have an affect. If the carrier is a supported carrier for the iPhone, then it should get carrier updates, if they exist. You will either have a carrier update file, or you will have to access APN settings manually. Who knows where that carrier file is from, since it does not identify a carrier. These are some of the issues encountered when using MVNO, especially if they are unsupported.

Alright, after another chat with Ting, it seems that my phone really needs the upgrade. It seems that ios 7.1.1 does not handle LTE that Ting's SIM card has picked up. So now, it is ios 9.2.1, do not see app slow down. The storage space seem to get cleaned up a lot (bonus, more photo space:-). LTE shows up.

(did not do the factory reset as Ting has tried to push) Anyway, software upgrade solved the problem, it is ios 7.1.1 too old for LTE.

Thanks!
