URLs not working in Safari or Mail after iOS 9.2.1

After updating my iPad Air 2 iOS 9.2.1, I experienced Safari crashing when trying to open a new tab. I solved this problem by disabling Search Engine Suggestions and Safari Suggestions in Settings, as recommended. However now, if I've done a search, I cannot open any of the links in that search. If I type a specific URL in the Search Box, then I can open the page, but am unable to sign in, use any links from that page, etc. Also, I find that I am unable to open any URL links that I receive in Mail and tapping on a link then locks up Mail... I have done a full sync to my iMac, which can sometimes rectify a problem, but it hasn't helped in this instance.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Robert,

Until Apple has a solution I'm using CloudMagic as my main email client, Chrome and Mercury as my main browsers (in CM you can choose Chrome instead of Safari for the links) , Fantastical as my suplementary calendar and TunnelBear as my VPN connector.

This has been working >90% for close to a month so have made my iPad Mini 4 useable again until, sometime this year, Apple fixes iOS.

Cheers

Andres

I too have the problem that links in Safari no longer work after iOS9.3 update. iPhone 6, 128GB

It's so good that people make suggestions like 'disable Javascript', but really this is not a solution. Half of the sites you visit will probably not work properly. And no, the old faithful 'Reboot your phone' also doesn't work, so pls stop suggesting it - or find a job in Windows Support.

Suggestions like 'Use Chrome/Firefox' are also just a distraction - they are using the same underlying browser/webkit. So although (for example) Chrome will allow you to more easily open links in a new tab, this also isn't a solution. Clicking on links after searching simply will not work.

And of course then we get the 'Restore/Reinstall' iOS9.3. Really? This is rather akin to replacing the engine in your car every time you run out of gas. And worse still: It won't solve anything. In various forums this has been confirmed (usually at the cost of spending a couple of hours at a Genius Bar). This appears to a be a new bug, introduced by Apple engineers. It is almost incomprehensible that the engineering team didn't spot it as part of their QA, as similar issues were reported with various beta releases.

I hope that instead of enjoying a great Easter break, they are slaving away on iOS 9.3.1. With fixes. Producing poorly controlled iOS releases (thank heavens I have not yet tried to update any of my 'older' iOS devices) damages the reputation of Apple, and turns fairly expensive digital devices into shiny coasters. If - like me - you use your iPhone / iPad extensively as browser - it needs fixing, and fast.

No: my post doesn't provide a solution. Only one organization can do that: The Apple engineering team. Get to it.

iphone 6s 128gb started to have the same problem. Upgraded to ios 9.3 still the same. Like many did I tried all the sensible things to overcome the problem. Nothing worked so far.

It doesn't make sense to go back to factory settings and then restore, seeing the number of people having the same problem, it is obviously an issue Apple should address the problem.

I'm having the same issue. Updated iOS to 9.3 but that didn't help

i I use Mercury too but same issue

my iPhone still works. My wife's iPad Air 2 still works too but neither one has been updated.

I'm going to get a genius appt. tomorrow but not very confident

i I can't even get to the community forums on my iPad. Can't click on Genius Bar either

and virtually no links from a search will open

this is BS Apple!

We're wall to wall Apple ... iPhone6, iPhone6s, iPad, and iMac. The only device where Safari freezes is the iPad. However, if we try and connect to the internet using the iPad, it locks up the hub and nothing else works. I've tried all the suggestions and some provide a very temporary fix but the problem comes back quickly.

It is shameful that there are now 13 pages of complaints on this topic and NO response from Apple. I am seriously considering a radical solution ... going to buy a Microsoft Surface!
