Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini cannot be recognized

My mini cannot be recognized anymore by my MacPro.

I have tried unplugging all the cords and reconnecting.

Restarting and reinstalling the software.

Still nothing.

Last thing I remembered when I was going to backup some photos was I started my Mac Pro from sleep mode and notification of improper ejection from my hard drive. The hard drive was in the desktop then it disappear. My hard drive not cannot be recognized. No sign of powering up from the device.

Is there a way to retrieve any data?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini 320gb

This issue can likely be resolved with a few tweaks, the GUID partition is likely corrupted, you will need to "repair" with either disk utility, or, if it doesn't work, with more advanced software. Many different tutorials are available on the web (you will find them by googling for ex "mac usb device not mounting") to help you in that process.

good luck

James
