I understood what you were referring to. My Hyundai has something similar, just that one end contains a USB plug, and a small plug similar to a headphone. The other end is a 30-pin plug. I would use this in my vehicle, my 4s worked great, the 5s was questionable when I got the adapter, and my daughter's iPhone 6 would never work. I have the 6s now, and it will work most every time, but Hyundai has never replaced the 30-pin cable yet with the newer lightning cables, and their website says they do not support the phones newer than the iPhone 5s, which is funny since the 5 and 5s both use lightning cables. When I experience a problem with the cable, I just connect via Bluetooth. The only issue I have with that, is that is does not display as much information as you get with the cable, and it is easier to manage music on the phone, but not when you are driving. Apple also has a 30-pin to lightning adapter that has a short cable on it, and that one seems to work better than the one-piece solid adapter.
