Set higher resolution on second screen with Bootcamp (win7)

Hi Guys,

I am struggling to get my UltraWide 21:9 monitor working as second screen on my mid 2011 imac via Bootcamp windows 7.

The max resolution I can set in windows is 1920x1080. I want it to be on 2560x1080. This should be possible.

If i try to open AMD Catalyst in windows it says:

"amd catalyst control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured"

Imac specs:

CPU: Intel i7

RAM: 8GB

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

In the notes… This driver is not intended for use on AMD products running in Apple Boot Camp platforms. Users of these platforms should contact their manufacturer for driver support.

There is a Bootcamp section on the AMD support site:

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/bootcamp

I've uninstalled the AMD driver that comes with Bootcamp, and runned the AMD Clean utility. After that i installed the latest driver form the AMD website (from the Bootcamp section). The driver is installed, it's just that Catalyst won't open and i cant do any settings.

Not sure what to tell you. AMD seems to be supplying conflicting information. Since you downloaded the driver from them, I suppose you need to contact them as to why it doesn't work.

Hello, sorry to resurrect an old post, but I have the same issue / question with the same mid-2011 iMac.

I have a new 4k monitor, and I'm trying to see if I can get a resolution higher than 1080p in bootcamp on Windows 7.

I'm running Catalyst 14.11.2 Beta with the 14.3 driver.

I thought it was a limitation of my thunderbolt (mini-displayport) to HDMI 2.0 adapter,

so I tried direct mini-DP -> DP, and I'm still limited to 1080p.

I think it's just a driver limitation, since the video card should support it.

The iMac's native resolution is 2160x1400!

Were you able to find any solution?

Update: I found a solution! Posting in case someone else stumbles on this in the future. 🙂

Issue seemed to be ViewSonic's monitor driver... when I switched to a generic Digital Flat Panel driver, the missing settings showed up!

Another update:

Make sure you have GPU up-scaling disabled in AMD's CCC (under My Digital Flat-Panels > Properties > Image Scaling Preferences)
