Apple ID (under 13) incorrect birthday: I entered the wrong year. Apple care can't edit the birthday. They can't (won't) delete/remove the incorrect id from my family share. HELP

My daughter saved for two years to buy a mini iPad. When I tried to create an apple id for her, I could not do it online as she is under 13. I had to do it through my phone (icloud/Family share). I accidentally put 2016 as her year for birthday. I can't change the birthday because she is under 13. Apple Care cannot change the birthday. I cannot remove her from my family share because she is under 13. I cannot delete her. The incorrect id thinks she is 1 month instead of 11. I don't have another family share to transfer her to. I called Apple Care 2 weeks ago. Spent 2.5 hours on the phone with them Bumped to floor supervisor and then a ticket was created. Was told it would take 2 days to delete the apple id. I have called back several times and emailed the contact that they gave me. No response other than it was sent to the wrong department. We'll get back to you in 2-3 days. I has been 8 days since then.

I feel the Family Organizer should be able to edit the birthday of a child under 13. Or apple should be able to do it. Family organizer should be able to delete a child under 13 from Family share.

Does anyone have any advice on how to correct this problem. I don't think my daughter is going to be very happy to be on the family share when she is 24 years old. I can't just create a new apple id for her because I will need the spot for my other child.

Thanks Gail. Good thought but I can't disband the Family share because you cannot remove a child under 13 from a Family Share. Since you can't remove them, you can't disband the group. Crazy.

I understand you can remove a child from a Family Sharing group, SO LONG as they are transferred to another Family Share group. Perhaps you might want to consider creating a second account for yourself and moving your daughters incorrect account to that, then creating her a new 'correct' account and adding it to your 'real' Family Share group.

Thanks. I do understand what Apple is trying to do and respect the regulations they have to follow.

I did just spend another hour on the phone. Was bumped to another very nice Senior advisor. After trying a bunch of different things, even he said that he that there really should be an answer but it is almost impossible to accomplish. He has forwarded the question to another new department. This will be the third. He will be calling me back (fingers crossed) tomorrow with a status update.

You are correct. It does say you can transfer to another account. I was considering setting up a second/fake icloud account but can I ask you a couple of questions?

If I do this, I have to do it with a credit card because all minors being accepted into a family share have to be done with a credit card and verification. If I use a credit card with one icloud account, does it prohibit me from using the same credit card for another icloud account? (Like email where you can only have an email associated with one icloud account for all time.) I could get around this but would want to be careful about which card if that was the case.

I have to invite her using the icloud on either my phone or ipad. I am worried that once I log into a new (fake) icloud account on either my iPhone or ipad, and accept the incorrect icloud account of my daughter, that it won't let me log out of that fake icloud and back into my real icloud. Sounds like a crazy question, I know, but once I put the incorrect apple id on my family share, it really won't let me delete, remove, edit birthday etc. all because she is under 13. I was worried that it would not let me delete/sign out of the icloud account if I log into it to invite her incorrect icloud and she accepts. Then I would be stuck with an incorrect icloud on my phone which would be an even bigger problem. Thanks for helping.

Before I begin, I no longer have any children under 13 so I'm not able to say I have been able to test anything I might suggest.

I don't think you are restricted to one credit card to one account. I now have everyone on a family share on one debit card, but prior to Family share my wife and I both had my credit card associated with our accounts.

I don't know but I wonder if you would actually need to use a credit card with your new (temporary) account. This account would be 'adopting' your daughters erroneous account, not creating it, as such you have already met the requirements for setting up a child's account. It would in fact be your existing account that sets up a new account for your daughter.

I agree you would need wholly new email addresses, but suspect getting as many of those as you need would merely be inconvenient.

Again, I couldn't be sure but I don't see why it would not let you log out of the 'fake' ID. You might want to ask Apple about that or see if anyone can actually confirm having done this, you also might want to consider doing this on a public PC or similar.

Still not sure if you actually tried to "Stop Family Sharing" on the Organizer's device? If so, what happened when you tried to do that? Did you get an error, because, again, the instructions imply that you can do that and I'm not seeing any caveats about who might be on the plan?

As far as creating the "fake" iCloud, it wouldn't actually be fake, it would be another Apple ID. You can put the same credit card on it that is on another Apple ID (I have had the same credit card on both of the Apple IDs that I actually have used to purchase items in the past, and to double-check, I just added it to one of the two "test" iCloud accounts that I created for myself while testing things for this forum).

So, by creating a new iCloud ID, you would be able to do the switch as Winston Churchill recommended.

There is nothing that should prevent you from signing that ID out of your device once you have completed the process.

Best of luck,

I am holding out for a few more days to see if Apple can resolve the issue. As I said, one lucky person on a different forum question on this site managed to have it happen. If all else fails, I will attempt the second iCloud account and try to transfer her. I am almost positive the new account will need to verify a credit card. It is required for all children under 13 when you invite them into your family share. I can't do it from a public PC as you cannot create an apple ID for anyone under 13 on the Manage my Apple ID page. You can't create the Family Share under Manage my Apple ID page either. You have to both through Settings/icloud/family share on a device that is using the Family Organizer iCloud. Just a little leary of creating new accounts and having things frozen after the experiences of the past two+ weeks. Dealing with Under 13 and apple ID, I seem to run into a brick wall at every turn. Appreciate all the suggestions.

Gail: Again good suggestion that should work...but does not. You cannot stop the Family Share on the account once you have a child under 13 as one of your family share members. When logged into settings/icloud/Family Share/Organizer, it specifically says that I cannot do it while my 11 year old (1 month in Apple's system) is a member of my family share. It says "You need to transfer her to another family to stop the family share" when I click on myself (Organizer). Not sure how many families Apple thinks everyone has...I only have my one so I don't have a second one to transfer her to. (Or at least until I take Winston's suggestion and create a second account and try and transfer her...but am a little nervous about my phone or her iPad being frozen/broken if I am logged into her somehow while they are working on the problem. They said she can't be logged in and I would need to log in to accept the new family invite and transfer her. If I click on her name under settings/icloud/Family Share, it simply says "Children under 13 cannot be removed from a family." Appreciate all your suggestions...I would think any number of these things would solve the problem but I just keep running into the "can't do anything once the iCloud account is an Under 13." I won't be making that mistake again. Next time I will set the age at 14 and just turn on the ask permission to buy apps feature instead of picking a birthday that is Under 13. And you can be sure that I will triple check the birthday before I click enter.

Wow talk about a Catch-22... I hope that Apple will be able to get this rectified for you. And I see now why you would be hesitant to try to set up a separate Family Share with the running into roadblocks everywhere you turned business going on. I'd feel the same way you do. The last thing you want to do is to set up a second Family Share to move your daughter to, only to find that you cannot get your original one signed back on...(eyeroll). Please do keep us posted if you are so inclined. I'd love to hear that you are able to get a solution that works! 🙂

Best of luck,
