How do I insert a table within a cell in Numbers?

I am trying to create a 4 quadrant grid. In each of the quadrants, I want to have 5 columns and at least 12 rows. I can't figure out how to insert the table into cell. The table jumps out of the original grid onto a blank portion.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

You cannot make tables within tables, however Numbers lets you make multiple tables the exact number of rows/columns you want, and move them around anywhere you wish.


Make one the way you want with proper column widths, labels, row height, etc, then copy/paste it multiple times to make your four tables.

The guides should assist you in lining them up the way you want to.

Instead of thinking about inserting a table with a cell, how about making one big table with 10 columns, and 24 rows?

You can do this by inserting a table onto the sheet and then adding columns and rows by dragging or clicking the handles (they look like big and).


Then add borders to the relevant cells to mark the quadrants. With the row (or column) of cells selected you click on the symbol for the border you want and then adjust the Border Style setting to get a thicker line, as shown:
