How to find the phone number text message sent from?

How do I set up message app to display the number from which texts were sent? It only shows contact names--not which number the message came from.

Also, within the text message click details up in the top right then the "i" icon. The number it came from will show up in blue.

From reports I've heard, it doesn't do that anymore.

Checked a text from my dad today and the number he texted from is in blue.

Cool. People have been reporting that they're not seeing the blue. I haven't been able to check as most of my contacts have only one phone number.

The phone number assigned to that contact will be the number it was sent from. If you have more than one number assigned to a contact, but you want to know specifically which number it's coming from, then make an additional contact for that person, and only have one number per contact. For example:

Name of Contact: Bob (Mobile)

Phone Number: 1-888-555-1212

Name of Contact: Bob (Work)

Phone Number: 1-888-555-1213

Once you've assigned a contact name to a phone number, that's what is going to be displayed.
