incorrect activity data

I have noticed that on occasion the activity tracker in my i Watch gets off and some times by a lot. For instance by 9am one morning I had already achieved my stand goal which was crazy I never achieve that till close to the end of the day (looking at the progress bar it showed a lot of standing action while the watch was charging on my desk before I even put it on for the day...). Today I did a workout on my bike trainer and the exercise bar didn't even move...So is there anything I can do to improve the accuracy of the activity tracker?

Hi

It should not be possible for your Stand goal to be achieved by 9am (the goal requires you to stand in each of 12 separate hours during the day).

Try these steps:

Check that your iPhone and watch are updated with the latest software:

Check that your personal information is accurate:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > check and, if necessary, edit your birthdate, gender, height and weight.

Check that you have enabled Wrist Detection:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection.

Disable and re-enable fitness tracking, with a restart of both devices in between:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - turn Fitness Tracking off.
  • Restart both devices: turn both off together, then restart your iPhone first.
    • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.

    • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

  • Return to the Fitness Tracking setting and re-enable it.

  • During workouts, for the best performance from the heart rate sensor (data from which is used when estimating workout results), ensure that you wear your watch snugly on the top of your wrist.

    • Apple suggests that you consider tightening the band before starting a workout and loosening it again afterwards.

Calibrate your watch, which will improve the accuracy of health and activity-related estimations made by the Activity and Workout apps.

It may otherwise help to unpair and re-pair your watch. The Watch app on your iPhone takes watch backups automatically, including a fresh one when unpairing via the app. Choose to restore the watch (Restore from Backup) when offered the option during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked under warranty:
