I changed my Apple ID and now I can't update my apps

I just created a new Apple ID and expected to lose all of my apps, but I can still use them. I already logged into everything with the new ID. The issue is that now I can't update them and the app store doesn't recognize them as purchased, but also won't allow me to repurchase them. When I click update, it prompts me for the password of the old ID and won't let me change it. They are basically in limbo. Any ideas about how to fix it? Thanks!

I had to create a new one because I was sharing one with my mom under her email address, and I knew it'd be way more difficult for her to figure out. I know that they aren't transferable, and I'm fine with that, but my confusion is that now the store is still somehow linked to the old ID.

  • Go to Settings/iCloud and sign out
  • Go to Settings/iTunes & App Stores and sign out
  • Go to Settings/Facetime and sign out
  • Go to Settings/Messages and turn off iMessage
  • After signing out of all of these, go to each one and sign in with the new Apple ID.
  • Delete any apps purchased or download with the old ID
  • Go to the App Store and purchase or download any apps that you want

I thought about that but I'm going to set up Family sharing with my boyfriend so we can share apple music. I'm fine with losing the apps, I just want to disconnect from the old ID totally, sharing it has been causing a lot of issues (getting each others calls and contacts overlapping and transferring between phones). I more just want to start fresh in terms of downloaded things.

If you changed your email address, You didn't not need to create a new ID. You just needed to change the Apple ID, not create a new one. Apps and all iStore purchases are tied to th ID used to make the purchases. Creating a new ID means that you have to start all over again with your purchases. Changing the ID allows you to keep all of your purchases.
