Problem to install a Samsung Blu-ray SE-506CB to iMac 2011 w/Yosemite

Hello there

I bought a Blu-ray writer Samsung SE-506CB to use it in my old (but updated) iMac mid 2011 with So X Yosemite; nevertheless, is not been recognized by my iMac. I already review other publications and posts in the apple communities about how to install it (re-start, put a bR disc on it [I did place a original BR and DVD], updated the last firmware from TSST website... and nothing of this is working. (the device cannot be seen even in the Finder).

I know I have to install new software as blu-ray pal and roxio toast, but I believe that the device needs to be recognized first before any other software installation.

Please need your help due I need to use this new device for my photo business.

I would try connecting it to another computer, mac or windows or linux does not matter if it shows up in non then the drive is the issue

I will try that. But thinking in advance, what if this device work in another computer? What should I have to do to use it in my old iMac? (or should I have to start thinking to change and move forward to a New imac?)

What do you mean by "not been recognized by my iMac"? You do realize that it won't show up on your desktop. Did you try to insert a disk into the drive? The disk should appear on your desktop.

Hello Duane

Yes, I realized that. What I mean is that EVEN with a BR disc, DVD, or CD inserted, the device is not been seen anywhere. Not in desktop, not in Finder either. The device is powered as it is connected to my imac and the Led blinks, but that's it; I cannot se it installed.

Does or did your old iMac have a Superdrive built in? The external Apple Superdrives only work with Macs which never had a built in drive. So, if that is the case, best thing is to return this and buy a third party player.
