Problems with iPod touch: when trying to listen using earphones, there is an onimous "click" then nothing. The battery is fully charged.

My iPod touch, is fully charged and I can listen through the head phones while it is plugged in, but as soon as I unplug it, there is a loud "click" sound and then it goes dead.

Anyone have any similar experiences? Suggestions?

Sorry. I was replying to this but got interrupted. Not sure if you got the previous post so here goes again.

The iPod is fully charged - either by using the Apple wall charger or by computer; it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I unplug the iPod from the charger or computer, listen using the Apple headphones; 5 secs then "click": no sound, black screen. If the iPod is attached either to the computer or the wall charger, it works, no problem. Pretty annoying to be tethered like this!

You can try the following but your likely have a hardware problem:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I think you are right; it must be a hardware problem. After trying your suggestion to reset, and removing all my music as suggested in another forum, the device did the same thing.

I wonder if Apple builds in obsolescence? My first iPod lasted for years, is still going strong as I passed it on to my son-in-law when I upgraded. The iPod I bought as an upgrade, lasted less than a year before I returned it and was given this current iPod in exchange (because the first one was still under warranty). This one has lasted 15 months. Not too good for such a big company as Apple.

In contrast, my Blackberry playbook is still working just fine after all these years.
