JBL Xtreme bluetooth cannot work with macbook pro

I am currently using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS: El Capitan 10.11.3.

When I tried pairing my new JBL Xtreme bluetooth with my macbook pro or even macbook air, it can only go as far as to pair it. However, when I play music on my macbook pro/air, there is no music coming out of JBL Xtreme speakers, although it is paired.

However, I am able to pair and play music from my iphone 6.

Can you suggest how to fix this?

Once paired if you go to System Preferences>Sounds>Output is the BT device listed and selected as the output?

  1. Install the JBL Connect app on your phone
  2. Pair the JBL Xtreme with your phone
  3. The app should tell you to update the speaker's firmware
  4. Follow the screen steps (it should take 5 minutes)
  5. The speaker will reboot and repair to your phone
  6. "Unpair" the speaker
  7. Try to pair the speaker to your macbook

The first I tried to pair my macbook with the jbl xtreme didn't work. Actually it was possible to pair with the speaker but there was not audio output option for it. After the firmware update it's working fine.

Hope it helps.

If you have an iPhone or an iPad, download the JBL app, and update your device. Here's what someone posted above and it worked for me:

I also had this problem and successfully solved it by upgrading the firmware on the speaker with the following steps:

  1. You will need iOS compatible device (iPhone, iPad)
  2. Download the JBL Connect iOS app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jbl-connect/id994041762
  3. Pair your iPhone (or iPad) and speaker
  4. Start the JBL Connect app
  5. It should allow you to upgrade the firmware on the device
  6. Follow instructions for upgrading firmware
  7. Pair with Macbook using Bluetooth Preferences in System Preferences
  8. Your computer should now allow sound output to the JBL speaker

DELETE TWO BLUETOOTH FILES:

1. go to finder

at the top menu, under the 'GO' tab, select 'Go to folder'

search for '/Library/Preferences' folder

locate and delete 'com.apple.Bluetooth.plist'

2. go to finder

at the top menu, under the 'GO' tab, select 'Go to folder'

search for '~/Library/Preferences/Byhost'`folder

locate and delete 'com.apple.Bluetooth.******'

(****** this file will end in various numbers and letters, just get rid of it)

3. Restart mac

I have the same problem but in my case, I can control the iTunes by pressing play/pause button however it seems connected and everything should be working but I still get the sound from the mbp not the Bluetooth speaker and I don't see the speaker in the output sound!
It used to work fine I restarted the device reset the pram unpair nothing worked so far!
