MacBook Pro Mid 2012 Suddenly Running Extremely Slowly

I have a 13-inch, mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory running OS X El Capitan that suddenly started running extremely slowly a couple days ago. I have plenty of storage space left on it and a shortage of RAM also doesn't appear to be an issue. Just in case, I've already perform a PRAM and SMC reset. I've also run an AHT to check for hardware issues and it said that no problems were found. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks.

Hello again rahuljay123,

At this point, the most effective diagnostic action you could take would be a fresh installation of OS X onto a bare hard drive. You could do that with your current hard drive. It might help and it might not. I suggest getting an SSD and reinstalling OS X onto that.

Hi! I am having this same issue. I only know the internet unfortunately and not much else so I do not feel comfortable adding anything. (tried that years ago with a pc when IT people said ad this and that and that was it) I am a very quick and smart learner but doing what people said in the past and then also having an IT company try to fix my old PC and then have it be worse makes me nervous. Macs are so much better than PC but I just can't understand why I have babied this thing-done nothing but record updates and not added a bunch of stuff on it and now after my extended warranty was up a year ago, it started.

I have a mid 2012 macbook pro and barely any of my memory used- no photos, videos or music on here, only documents. I have Captain. So I guess I am wondering if these Mac just need to be replaced after 5 years or what?

It starts very slow, and the only time it crashes is when I copy addresses from Excel (Office 2011) and then send to a mail. Then I get promoted to send an error report and I am wondering what the heck they do with that? Not help me... :-)

I will eventually go to the Mac store BUT I know I will just buy a new Mac and financially do not want to do that.

Can Office 2011 be the issue? Should I try to get 2016?

Sorry this is my first time ever posting on here.

Ok I just realized I needed to post my own question- I tried to delete this but I only see edit- I apologize rahuljay123
