Epson WF 2650 and Image Capture

I just got a new iMac and an Epson 2650 all-in-one. I had great difficulty getting it to scan and am not sure how I even finally did but alas it scans.

Right now, if I click SCAN on the printer, it scans and sends the scans right to my Pictures folder as either jpgs. or PDF's.

I would like to go through Image Capture so I can select the scan area and also designate where I want the scan to go. The Epson shows up on the side bar under Shared but when I click on that and try to scan I get an error message: "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner. (-9923).

Any ideas? Karen

I have Epson WorkForce 435, connected over wi-fi, and I have this same issue. I don't know how to solve your specific case, but I now have a work-around for myself which others might find useful. The following recommendation from the Epson website has helped me: https://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?UseCookie=yes&infoType =FAQ&oid=280430&foid=288594It includes two steps:

1) setting up a Network scanner in Epson Scan Settings

2) using a different software — "Epson Scan" — to actually scan rather than the one I used to scan before (this one does not work: http://screencast.com/t/l6JV4mjIAJnf , but Epson Scan does.)
