why does my internal ssd report as an external drive

I have just upgraded to a 1TB SSD to enable the installation of Win-10. Bootcamp and "about this mac" see's my new 1TB ssd as an external drive and will not let me proceed in bootcamp.

It is the only drive connected to the system, it has replaced the 250GB internal drive so why does it report as external.

Does any-one know why this is or has a fix for this problem???

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Late 2013, 6core, 16GB

Hi

Thanks for reply

Nothing else connected, not getting anywhere with this.

Is it possible that it is the OWC Aura SSD is not as compatible as OWC would have me think?

I cannot even get to the startup manager using the option key on startup with any of the following either plugged in or not :-

Genuine WIN 10 Installation USB stick.

USB stick with ISO file on it.

USB stick with the Windows support files on it.

Even tried with a wired keyboard.

I have Partitioned the OWC drive to 800GB for OS X and the rest(some 159GB) for WIN 10 (MS DOS FAT).

A re-programming with an axe is looming......

Open to suggestions

Hi Loner T

Thank you for all your advice, I have since spoken with OWC who have told me that yes I can run Windows or OS X as either/or but not on the same drive under separate partitions using bootcamp or other.

I have re-installed my 250GB SSD and installed Windows 10 with a degree of success, I am left without any audio in windows (probably a driver issue).

I have decided to give in with this battle and resurect an old PC for running windows.

Will post Diskutil O/P of original drive still if you think it may be helpful.

Thanks again

Martin

I am experiencing the same issue; just installed mine today. After seeing this info, I contacted MacSales.com chat tech support.

They stated, "That is normal for the new Aura drive, it will always be seen as an external drive...there is no way to change that."

If anyone else comes up with a solution or suggestion, I am following this and hope something can be done.
