GeekBuddy, a Complete SCAM!

I have been heavily cheated by them in the name of Apple Support. It was just yesterday that a message displayed on my Mac asking me to dial a TFN for Apple Support. Completely astonished by what was happening, I tried escaping but was restricted to do so. Devoid of any option I dialed the number and was diverted to GeekBuddy. The technician who was on the line presented before me quite a number of problems that I was unaware of, until that time. He said only a payment of 200$ could save my Mac. Doesn’t it sound ridiculous! How come a system that was working perfectly be on the verge of getting completely damaged. Still, having got feared I paid 200$ as per the demand, but I think I have been completely cheated. Coz, the moment I transferred the money everything was same as before. My experience says GeekBuddy is a complete SCAM! Can anyone please suggest how to recover the money that they have incurred fraudulently from me?

Any such popup message will always be a scam. Never respond to such scare tactics. For future reference: Force quit Safari, the. restart Safari while holding the shift key.

If you allowed the criminals to access your computer, you should consider it compromised and restore it with a backup that predates the scam.

Contact your bank for steps to deal with the scam, and the compromised credit/bank card.

Unfortunately, there are too many scammers and hackers - and they mostly make a living of it, at least until they're caught. But, someone else will come to fill their shoes.......
