Trying to install Mavericks on a 2009 Mac Mini, getting error message.

Trying to install Mavericks on a 2009 Mac Mini. Says, "cannot find information about this machine, contact AppleCare." Well duh, my AppleCare expired almost three years ago. What can I do? I'm just trying to limp the old machine through taxes before replacing it.
