Import/Export to new Office 2016. Any big issues?

I'm wondering if I should update my office365 to the new 2016 version? Anyone had more trouble exporting/importing Pages-docx with the new version office?

I've been using Office For Mac 2016 for some time with no issues. I do very little with Pages but on the Microsoft side I wouldn't expect any difference in ability to deal with files exported to Word format by Pages -- i.e., I don't believe that Microsoft made any changes to their file format from the previous version.

I don't believe that Apple has added full Office 2013 Word support to Pages v5.6.1. If there are any Office 2016 (Windows or Mac) nuances that Apple have not addressed yet, then those could interfere with formatting when opening one of those documents in Pages v5.6.1 (or later). Unfortunately, with Pages v5, there just are no guarantees when opening any Word document.

I have a Word (.docx) document, a one-pager, sitting on my Desktop that Pages v5.5.3 exported, and though Pages v5.6 was able to open it, Pages v5.6.1 will not touch it, proclaiming that “foo.docx cannot be opened for some reason.” Yet, Pages '09 v4.3, Preview, Bean, LibreOffice, and TextEdit all open it without issue.

I am about to bite the bullet and purchase Office 2016 for Mac.

Yea... I mostly use Pages but need to import/export to word a lot. I see apple says for their latest pages

  • Improved Word compatibility for charts, text overflows, and nonrectangular masks
  • Improved compatibility with Microsoft Word 2013 documents

But no mention of office 2016 so I don't have an immediate need to update to 2016 so I'll just wait to make sure people are not having more than normal trouble converting... "normal troubles" are just some minor formatting shifts where text flows out of box
