Syntax error line 43 of swupd.conf

Listen *:8088

I had the same problem.

I have changed Line 243 from

Listen *:0

to

Listen *:8088

but when i activate the Softwareupdateservice the Line changed back to

Listen *:0

I deleted the Folder /Library/Server/Software Update

but after restarting the Server all Updates are waiting....

Does anybody have an idea about this issue ?

Are you changing this using "nano" terminal command? Should stick that way...

Yes i changed it within the Terminal with the Nano Editor.

i used nano with sudo nano /Library/Server/Config/swupd.conf

then i changed the port from 0 to 8088 and leave nano using CTRL + X - Y - ENTER

but after restarting the softwareupdate the port ist changed back to 0 again :-(

This is sounding familiar... im sure I had this. I may have even just put software update on another server in the end!

have you tried :

- closing server.app

- deleting /Library/Server/SoftwareUpdate folder

- re-open Server.app

- set up Software update again

?

yes i did this.

Today i found a swpud.conf backuped from a colleague.

With this config file i get the following message:

and after klicking on "looking for new updates" the number changed from 526 Updates to 527 Updates.

I think, now it's working.

I will reply if i get another error.

Great, glad youve made progress.

You can try these commands to force a check in with the software update. NOTE - UPDATES CAN TAKE HOURS TO INDEX / BUILD so maybe leave overnight or get a few strong coffes 🙂

On the server:

Run - sudo swupd_syncd -listCatalogs

To see what is available (or it thinks is available), and then

sudo swupd_syncd -sync

To force a re-sync with the prime ASUS

now are all updates are waiting but i can't load or activate any update.....

I can activate any update but after a few times the state changed back to "waiting".

The System-Volume is 46,5 GB and 28,17 GB are free - is that enough ?

Need more MB my friend. My SU folder is just under 300gb.

You can reduce this by manually selecting what is downloaded though. Ive just enabled default.

Now i changed the size of the System-Volume to 100 GB more - now the downloads are running.

at least in the terminal.

At first, thanks to all for helping here.

But i have another question:

Is it possible to bind the Folder /Library/Server/Software Upate/Data to another direction ?

The idea is to outsourcing the updates to the swap-drive because the system-drive is to small for all updates... :-(

And another question: how can i delete updates i don't need ? When the server is loading the updates, there are updates for Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard also - and Updates from the years 2012, 2013, 2014 they will never need because we only use Yosemite.

Just toggle the SUS settings from Automatic to Manual where you will have to select and enable the updates individually. That will help you to filter out the older and unneeded updates while simultaneously reduce the footprint significantly.

thanks for your reply. This i have done but the older updates were als loaded in the server and shown in the Softwareupdatelist.

My intention is to have only updates in the Softwareupdatelist they are actually and needed for our macs.

Aha Frank!

Now for the next step. On the SUS page. Select the Updates pane at the top. Deselect 'Automatic download New Updates'

Click on any update or group of updates that you don't want. Next click on the gear below and it will open options to delete, disable etc.
