How do I convert mts for FCPX

My new Canon Legia HF G25 saves the clips in mts.

I would like to edit them in FCPX, and for this I need to convert them to for instance QuickTime. There are numerous suggestions as to which converter is the best, and I have tried a handful without succes - including bought versions. They either cannot convert at all or convert into something which turns out to be useless and/or severely reduced quality in FCP.

What do you recommend, all of you super FCP users? :-)

Should I try converting to another format and which converter works for you?

MacBook Pro, FCPX 10.2.3

I wish you know-it-alls would stop thinking that people don't "properly import them".

Some of us don't have any other option than to try and take the file directly from the card and save it onto a NON MacInTrash and then try and take that file and import it into FCP. My reason I'm having issues is because for some reason FCP is NOT finding the card from the camera with the video files on it. The video folder has one image shot on it and its not showing the videos. Its only on the Mac and FCP that its not finding the folder within the card. The camera sees the card with the video files, my Lenovo sees the video files. Just not my MacInTrash or FCP.

I cant wait to get away from Apple completely. Apple talks to Apple products and then becomes Hitler to other formats and brands of many things.

What do you mean by "imported properly"?

The mts-files I import loose video and sound after a while. Files more than 3 minutes are out of the question.

I can play the original mts and quicktime files on my player, and they look fine. Something happens during import. After converting them to Quicktime they are imported readily, but the video quality is awful.

NOrmally when you connect the camera to the computer it appears in the FCP import window and you can access the media. if someone stripped the video files out of the camera that was not done correctly. The whole folder needs to be taken off the camera. Because of the way camera drives are formatted they often break up long recordings into pieces. Without the folder structure the pieces cannot be reassembled into a single file. Mayne you could post screenshots of what you have on your hard drive. You might need to use ClipWrap to rewrap files if that's possible.

I know - with my old camera, I always imported directly from the camera.

With the new one I have not been able to, for some reason. In the future I will save on an SD card, but for now I only have the clips on a an external drive - here they look fine in every player I've tried and in Premiere pro. It's only after import in FCP they give problems.

Maybe I should just stop using FCP and start using Premiere Pro instead... I seriously consider doing that.
