i want to change the auto-lock time setting on my iPhone 6+ but for some reason this option seems to be greyed out. How do I unlock it in order to change it ?

Is this a work phone and/or do you have a work email account on it?
no to both. It's my own personal phone with my own email accounts on it
And neither of those emails are Exchange accounts.
Check your Restrictions on the phone to see if any are set. Also go to Settings > General > About and see if you have a Profile on your phone.

i did have an Exchange email set up on my phone. As soon as I deleted it the auto-lock option became available .
