I am making a slideshow with still pictures using the ken burns effect.
For this slideshow, i feel like the ease in effect makes the transition between two pictures unnatural due to the change of speed (slow to fast)
I find the ease in & ease out effect to be too slow for the zooming in to start.
I would therefore like less easing in and less easing out. Is that possible?

Yes. You can select no easing. Select the clip with Ken Burns effect in the timeline. Right click anywhere in the image in the viewer and select 'linear'. See: http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.2/#/verb8e5de9c
To create other easing effects you have to use the crop function and keyframes.

I do these moves often. My preferred method is to use keyframes on zoom and position, not crop.
If you're not doing precision work, you will probably find it easier to work in Motion. Although there's a learning curve. You can use the Behaviors to do this kind of stuff "quickly and easily" as they say.
