Can I not have two projects open at the same time?

Is it not possible to have two projects open at the same time in Garageband? Every time I try it asks me to save the current open window and then closes down in favour of creating a new project. Seems awfully clumsy, and there’s a Window option in the menu list across the top of the screen, so I must be misunderstanding!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 16Gb, 256Gb SSD

Oh god that’s nuts. So what is the Window menu for?

I’m so used to working in Audacity where I have loads of windows open, cutting and pasting from different raw files into one master file. They messed up their latest update so that’s why I’ve jumped onto Garageband.

Not that I’m going to purchase it, but is that one a difference between Garageband and Logic Pro X; that you can have multiple windows open?

I might try Reaper once this deadline is out of the way.

I guess if you start off using Garageband then its fine and there is a workaround; I guess people just load in all their raw files into the one project and cut and paste from the various multiple tracks. Its not the end of the world, just a different way of working to the one I'm used to.

Ok. Thanks Leonie. 🙂

I have one other (unrelated question). I have an old electric keyboard (Roland EXR-7 from the late 90's I think, I bought it off a friend). If I buy a Midi-to-USB connector can I simply hook this old keyboard up to the Macbook, hit the keys on the Roland and see it come up as digital notes in Garageband? Is it that easy (tell me its that easy!).
