why can't I use a yahoo email to create a new apple id?

I am trying to create a new apple id for my wife. When I enter her yahoo email I get a notice that I cannot use that email for her apple id. Anybody know why?

You cannot create an Apple ID with an email address that has already been used as the primary or the backup email for an existing Apple ID. Perhaps her email is the recovery email for yours?

This might be helpful for you!

A few people are having problems having their Yahoo mail account set up so heres the fastest way to fix the problem.

1. Go to Settings

2. Then select "Mails, Contacts, and Calenders"

3. Add account

4. Select "Other" and select "Add Mail Account"

5. add your Email and password

To set up Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) on your mobile device, please use the following settings:

Incoming Server -

Host Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com

User name: ("your Email" @yahoo.com )

Password: (Your email password)

Outgoing Server -

Host Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

User Name: ( "your Email" @yahoo.com )

Password: (Your email password)

Hope this works! 🙂
