iPhone 6s plus wifi disconnect after locking

I recently bought iphone 6s+ and running iOS 9.2.1..Whenever I lock (sleep) my iPhone, wifi automatically disconnects and when I unlock or press power button,it automatically connects..I dont think it is any kind of feature bcoz I am having delayed notifications due to this from apps like whatsapp, gmail etc..

Is it normal behaviour from iphone?

Android have 'keep wifi during sleep' option..I am missing that badly User uploaded file

Please help anyone..

P.S. battery saver mode is off..background app refreshing is on for all apps..I even tried reset all settings and network settings..what should I do?

Wow! So "No device in the world.." ?!

Please have some actual understanding of how devices work and what their functions are before making such boldly incorrect statements.

The option to keep WiFi enabled or disabled when in sleep or lock mode may not be an option on your particular device however it is a very common and useful option of the vast majority of devices in use today.

It is true.

here are some factual discussions on the feature. While these examples specifically cover Android devices, they are indeed "devices in the world".

Had you indicated your personal experience just as such, that's at least truthful. Asserting that anything you don't know is wrong (regardless of what happens at your mom's house) is the only real lie here.

Thank you, and please try to keep your discussion civil and factual.

This is something you could easily test by pinging your phone from your computer.

Get the IP address of your phone:

Settings > WiFi > Click your active WiFi connection > record your IP Address

On your (Windows) computer open the command prompt:

Click Start > Type CMD > Press Enter

On the command line type:

Ping <Your.IP.Address> -t

Example: Ping 192.168.1.10 -t

From there just let it continue pinging your phone. Now lock it and wait a few seconds. Do the pings stop replying back? Now unlock it, does it continue to ping back? Now try it when it's plugged in. What happens to the pings?

I'll let someone else post the results, that should settle this debate.

I had the same problem with my iPhone, and found it had nothing to do with the router. Proof being that the following solution corrected the issue. Not sure why or how, but resetting the phone worked and now my wifi stays connected at work while my phone is sleeping. So here are the steps I followed:

1. Turn off the device.

2. Wait 30 seconds.

3. Turn on the device.

4. Once home screen loads, reset device: Hold down sleep and home buttons simultaneously for several seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Again, I have no idea why this solution works, but now my iPhone will actually maintain its wifi connection while sleeping. No need to frustrate yourself over this router malarchy. That may be an issue for some users, but clearly there are other users (like me) who can benefit from a different solution.

The problem is TRUE and REAL. I am on ios 10 and still experience the issue.

Have you ever used a phone not running ios? There are settings in other os for user to choose: Keep wifi on during sleep and even to set different level of connection. User can choose to keep wifi always on by sacrificing power.

For me, my voip phone number is my primary phone due to crappy cell phone coverage in the building. I need wifi on to receive calls. But this **** iphone disconnects wifi if sleeping for a long period of time and caused me to miss all the calls. I have no option to keep wifi always on.

My other phone never had this problem and I am even thinking to switch back to android.

Of course it's true and real. It's the way the phone was designed. If the iPhone doesn't meet your needs, you should definitely chose one that does. Fortunately, iPhones hold their value quite well. You should get a decent price for yours should you wish to sell it.

I tried this solution below and same thing happened with the ping test, it times out when the screen locked and then started up pinging just fine when I unlocked my iPhone.

I did exactly that.

2 iPhone SE iOS 10.3.3 - both WiFi on, Cell data off

started pings on each (from a linux system on network)

screen goes dark in 1 minute on each within 10 seconds, pings STOP.

pick phone up, pings start.

One of these phones was plugged in, one not. Same result on each.

Turned auto-lock to never. put phone down - screen stays lit, pings continue (with power in or not).

press power button, screen goes dark, ping stops within 10 seconds or so.

It would be nice to have the option to keep WiFi alive - at least when plugged in (it does NOT), or also turn off the cell data at the same time to prevent it from sucking my data plan dry in the middle of the night...

I just did that and, effectively, the ping time outs after about 10s of locking the iPhone (6s with iOS 11.0.2, but this behaviour happens since iOS 10). It's not that the WiFi turns off, it's just that the current connection drops.

I also disabled the WiFi Assist feature as suggested by someone else in this forum, just for testing out. I'm also keeping it charging, just for testing, but I've seen this disconnection in both scenarios, charging and not charging. I also applied the Reset Network Settings about half an hour ago, as suggested by someone else.

Notice, however, I observed just two time outs; after those the ping is being answered back and I observe no more time-outs: A press on the home button, without unlocking, shows the WiFi connected.

I then stopped the ping, waited 10s and pressed the home button again: Still connected.

Waited about 1m with the screen off: LTE, no WiFi. I then unlocked it and it took about 3 to 4 seconds to reconnect to the WiFi.

they are hiring an arrogant who just negates many people saying the same thing?

An arrogant.....what? You appear to be missing a noun to go with that adjective.
