change strikethrough width? (preview)

I am using preview to read PDFs and I highlighted a few lines by using the strikethrough tool.
The next day I continued highlighting but the strikethrough lines changed their width!
The older ones weren't affected, but all new ones I added from then on were much thicker and it bothers the **** out of me.
It now no longer looks like it did the first time, but instead the highlighted parts/lines are overlapping and just overall thicker.
I have googled my problem (unsuccessfully) and just can't figure out how to change it back to the original strikethrough "wideness".

Please help me! 😟

Neither Preview, or Adobe Reader give you an option to change the thickness of the Strike-Through annotation. Another (kludge alert) solution is to use a line-segment of larger thickness placed over the text as an alternate annotation.

I find that a strike-through in Adobe Reader is thicker than in Pages with the same document at the same magnification. The following are from Preview 8.1 on El Capitan 10.11.3.
