System Crash on Recovery Mode

Mid 2011 iMac 27" OSX 10.11.3 crash when going into Recover Mode by using both "hold Command + R" and "hold Option then select Recover HD" options; same after reseting NVRAM.

The follow screen appears for about 3 seconds then system automatically restarts.

Please Help.

Reinstall El Capitan Without Erasing the Drive

Make sure you have a current backup before proceeding.

Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.

Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the indented Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar.. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run First Aid until no errors are reported. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless and more reliable.

You have a 2011. Have you tried Internet Recovery (Command+Option+R)? Internet Recovery boots to Apple's Recovery servers so you can access the OS X Utilities menu and reinstall the most current version of OS X that came pre-installed. It won't be El Capitan, but at least you might be able to install OS X then upgrade back to El Capitan. You'll also have the ability to Verify Disk and Repair Disk if necessary.

I got the same exact error on Sunday after updating my iMac Mid 2011 27" to OSX 10.11.3. I scheduled my appointment with Apple and took the monster into the store, over an hour drive. (Yep.... I'm whining) They hooked it up to their diagnostics and said it was my hard drive died. Seems odd that we would have the same exact error on the same exact model updating the exact same version.

What option did I have..... I had to purchase another hard drive 😟 bummer. Could it possibly have been a software bug in the update? Now I wait then drive back in 3-5 days to pick it up then start my recovery mode.
