i have a mac mini. i want to be able to enjoy a movie on the couch while my wife is in bed from shift work.
can i send the sound to my phone and use my own headphones through it

No, an iPhone can't act like a Bluetooth receiver. The phone is really a BT transmitter with limited (mono) to receive audio fro a BT mic such as the one in a BT headset.
there is no app that can make the phone recieve. if you can share files via bluetooth why not sound
Sound is continuous and I suspect you would want stereo.
Files are not continuous.
The phone only has these BT profiles
it would require an app on the computer which would act the rule as an audio card and communicate the audio over the bluetooth profiles called PAN
and then an app in the other end on the phone which would convert the data stream into audio and play it out of the phones speakers
would take some development time so if the market was not pretty big it would likely not be made but that being said I don't have any intel as to suggest it has not already been made
can i use my phone as a bluetooth device to receive sound from mac mini. so i don't have to buy bluetooth headphones.
