Photos vs iPhoto - how are we feeling?

So when I upgraded to Yosemite and was forced into using Photos I quickly gave up on it and went back to using iPhoto. Just today I thought lets try and take a look at what has been happening on the Photos scene and see if anything has changed. To my surprise I can't find Photos on the App store to see if there is an update. When I go to Help > Photos Help all of the topics are "currently unavailable". I love Apple and their guiding principals. But I have to say that I really feel like they have dropped the ball on this one. In my school I support over 100 users who take mountains of photos. Unfortunately when I ask them about their thoughts on 'Photos' the word 'hate' is often in the sentence.

I don't use Photos and my photos aren't something I am willing to experiment with.

Thoughts? Am I missing something?

Thank you for the feedback link Larry. Were you aware of any more documentation other than what you get with help on the imac photos app?

I have tried using "download and keep originals". It still behaves the same way. If you look at a picture it still goes from thumbnail to full image. This behavior persists even when I wait 8 or more hours for things to get downloaded. Perhaps if you looked at all your images they'd stay on your iPhone but from what I've experienced they still "initially" get downloaded on the fly (meaning when you look at them).
